Columbus Area Volunteer Development Committee

Your help & expertise can provide an invaluable help to Angel Paws' ability to provide the many benefits only a cold wet nose, furry toes and wagging tail can offer those in need via Therapeutic Health Care Visitation and Reading Education Assistance Dogs literacy mentoring programs in the Greater Columbus Area.  

TITLE:  Columbus Area Volunteer Development   (may include a Committee Co-Chair position(s) &/or Assistant Director of Columbus Area Volunteers)

SERVICE DESCRIPTION:  The special individual (pair &/or group of individuals) willing to fill this leadership volunteer position(s) will work closely with Angel Paws' Executive Director to develop, maintain and coordinate a core group of committed Pet Partners Volunteers for Health Care Visitation and Reading Education Assistance Dogs programs in the greater Columbus area.  

TIME COMMITMENT:  Time commitment will be vary widely depending on project schedule.  

FUNCTIONS:   The Assistant Director, Committee, &/or Committee Co-Chairs of Columbus Area Volunteer Development will function as the assistant to Angel Paws' Executive Director for work on various activities initially focusing on marketing and Introductory Presentation to possibly later expand to include, Pet Partners Handlers Workshops, Pet Partners Skills & Aptitude Tests, on-going support etc.  Autonomy on projects will depend on knowledge, previous experience, ability and desire.          

RESPONSIBILITIES:  The Assistant Director, Committee Members &/or Committee Co-Chairs of Columbus Area Volunteer Development will initially share responsibility for recruiting, motivating and supporting Pet Partners volunteer candidates in the Columbus area.  

Detailed and timely communications with Executive Director, venue contacts, volunteer candidates and  volunteers in the process of planning and meeting deadlines is essential.  Advance preparation, detailed communication and training of auxiliary volunteers prior to events and activities may often be required along with creative ideas and ability to implement fundraising and community relations ideas.  

Initial goals include:
  • Compilation of a Community Relations contact list of all pet related businesses including Pet stores, Veterinarians, Groomers, Dog Clubs, and any other business that posts flyers & can help get the word out to potential Pet Partners candidates
  • Compilation of potential locations for an Introductory Presentation
  • Compilation of a media contact list of local newspapers, radio & television news rooms
  • Flyer distribution & mailing
  • Help with set up of Introductory Presentation

As our expansion grows goals may include:
  • Compilation of a list of potential health care facility, library and school contacts who may be interested in our programs
  • Compilation of a list of Columbus locations for Pet Partners Handlers Workshops
  • Compilation of a list of Columbus locations for Pet Partners Skills & Aptitude Tests
  • Compilation of a list of Columbus locations for Angel Paws Training & Orientations
  • On-going support to Columbus area Pet Partners & Auxiliary Volunteers

REQUIREMENTS
: 
The Assistant Director, Committee Members, &/or Co-Chair(s) of Columbus Area Volunteer Development should be organized, have good to excellent written and verbal communication and time management skills and be proficient with basic computer skills such as word processing and e-mail.  Spread sheets, photography, newsletter formats and graphic arts a plus.  Must be able to motivate, train and work with a variety of individuals and meet deadlines.  Special event planning and fundraising experience highly desirable.  Must be able to maintain a delicate balance between gentle kindness and patience yet still be assertive enough to communicate effectively.  Should be creative and have high standards of attention to detail in communication, advance planning and presentation when required.   Must have an interest in and basic to thorough understanding of (or be willing to learn) Angel Paws Mission, Method and Core Values (including training & registration process and standards of practice) and be a loyal and effective advocate for the program.   Must also be tolerant, supportive and forgiving of co-workers (including Director) in high stress situations. :)
